Cynynion Uchaf is a detached farmhouse near the hamlet of Rhydycroesau, about four miles outside Oswestry. It's on a working farm, but the house is set away from the farmyard, so it's quiet.
It's an old place. There are beams and some nice original brick floors. It sleeps eight in four bedrooms and has two bathrooms. The rating is 4 Star, which feels fair. It's comfortable and has everything you'd need, but it's not overly modernised, which I think is its charm.
There's a main living room and a separate snug room with a big fireplace and a TV. The conservatory looks out onto the garden. The garden is enclosed, which is good if you've got kids or a dog. We allow one well-behaved pet.
Being a farmhouse, the doorways are wide and there are no steps at the main entrance, so it's suitable for wheelchair access. Inside, the layout is mostly on one level, though there are a couple of small internal steps between rooms. Just something to be aware of.
It's a great spot for walking. You can head straight out from the house into the Rhydycroesau Woodlands or up onto the old Oswestry Racecourse common. For a day out, Oswestry has the hill fort and a few other bits. The British Ironwork Centre is nearby and is quite an experience.
You're well placed for some National Trust properties. Chirk Castle and Erddig are about a 30-minute drive. Attingham Park and Powis Castle are a bit further, maybe 40 minutes. The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct near Llangollen is spectacular and about 25 minutes away by car. Lake Vyrnwy and the edges of Snowdonia are within half an hour.
Facilities: you've got the WiFi, TV with Firestick, a dishwasher, washing machine, wood burner, and an enclosed garden with a BBQ. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot, highchair, and stairgate if needed. Parking is right outside.
