Wren Cottage
Wren Cottage is in Thirlby, near Thirsk. It's a detached cottage in our garden. You get the garden to yourselves, but we're in the main house next door if you need anything.
It sleeps two. One bedroom, one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable and mostly modern inside, despite the old look from outside.
The stairs are steep. It's a cottage conversion thing. Something to be aware of.
Inside, there's a wood burner in the living room. The kitchen is small but has what you need. The bed is a double. There's a shepherd's hut in the garden with a daybed in it. It's a nice spot to sit, but it's not set up for proper overnight stays.
Thirlby is very quiet. You'll hear birds and the stream. There's a local pub about a mile away in Felixkirk. The nearest shop is in Thirsk, about five miles.
You can walk straight from the door into the Hambleton Hills. Gormire Lake is about half an hour on foot. The North York Moors National Park is right there. Sutton Bank and the White Horse are a short drive.
Thirsk is the main town for shops and cafes. For a bigger day out, York is about 40 minutes by car. Fountains Abbey and Rievaulx Abbey are both within a 30 minute drive. The coast at Whitby is about an hour.
Facilities: there's a washing machine, towels and bedding are included, there's parking, and wifi. No pets, sorry.
