The Old Smiddy is in Poolewe, right beside the River Ewe. It's a detached cottage, an old blacksmith's place from about 1880. We've done it up simply. It's got a 3 Star rating, so it's comfortable and clean, not luxurious.
It sleeps six. There are three bedrooms and one bathroom. One double bedroom is on the ground floor, which is handy. The bathroom has a shower over the bath. Upstairs, there's a king-size room and a twin room. Both look out over the river. The stairs are a bit steep and narrow, just so you know.
The main living room is a good size with a wood burner. There's a smaller snug too, with an open fire. The kitchen is spacious enough for a few people to be in there. You get the whole garden to yourselves, and there's parking for two cars.
You're right between the river and the sea. It's a two-minute walk to where the river meets Loch Ewe. The village shop and the pub are about 300 yards away. The pub does food.
The National Trust for Scotland's Inverewe Garden is about a mile away. It's worth a visit. For a proper beach day, you'd drive to places like Big Sand or Gruinard Bay, which are about ten to fifteen minutes away.
In the shed, there's a washing machine and a dryer. Bedding and towels are included. We accept up to two well-behaved dogs. There's a highchair and a travel cot if you need them.
