Am Bothan

This is Am Bothan. It's in Naast, right by Loch Ewe in the Highlands. It's a single-storey, detached cottage so everything's on one level, which is handy. There's a veranda with seats, and the view from it is the main event. You look straight out over the loch to the mountains. It's private, but our house is next door, past a shared driveway.

It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable, not huge. You get your own parking spot.

The place is heated by a woodburning stove. We'll provide the wood. There's a dishwasher, a washing machine, wifi, and a TV. Bedding and towels are included. We can take one dog.

The jetty onto Loch Ewe is about a five minute walk down the lane if you fancy a cold swim. The sandy beach at Firemore is about three miles away. The village of Poolewe is just under three miles. It's got a good shop with a post office, a couple of cafes, a food cart, and a hotel bar. They also have a public swimming pool there.

Inverewe Garden is about three and a half miles away. It's run by the National Trust for Scotland and it's worth a visit because the Gulf Stream means all sorts of plants grow there that you wouldn't expect. National Trust for Scotland - Inverewe.

This whole area is good for walking. The Fisherfield Forest isn't far and it's very wild. For a boat trip to see whales or sea eagles, you'd go to Gairloch, which is about a 20-minute drive. There are several nice beaches around there too, like Mellon Udrigle.

At the end of our road, about five miles, is Cove. It's a lookout point over the Atlantic with a WWII memorial for the Arctic convoys.

My wife and I are artists. Some of our pictures are up in the cottage. She also gives drawing lessons, and I do pottery and teach African drumming, if you fancied trying something like that while you're here. There's an extra cost, but it's there if you want it.
