Friary Cottage is in Ludlow, on the street called Broad Street. It's detached, which is nice for a town cottage. The house is old, it's Grade II Listed, so there are some low beams and the doors are a bit uneven. The stairs are quite steep.
It sleeps six in three bedrooms. There are two bathrooms, one upstairs and one downstairs. It's a 4 Star place, so it's comfortable and everything works properly. We've kept some of the antique furniture that was here, which gives it a bit of character.
You've got a wood burner in the main room and there's an Aga in the kitchen. It keeps the place warm. There's a sun room out the back that leads to a small walled garden. It's enclosed, so it's safe for dogs and kids.
The location is the main thing. You can walk to the town centre in about five minutes. The train station is even closer, maybe three minutes. There's a supermarket literally fifty yards away, and a pub about a hundred yards. It's very handy.
Ludlow is a good base. The castle is right there in the middle of town. There are plenty of places to eat and some good butchers and bakers. The town gets busy during the food festivals.
If you want to drive out, you've got the Shropshire Hills around Church Stretton for walking. Places like Stokesay Castle and Berrington Hall are within half an hour. Into Herefordshire, you can get to Hereford city or the Witley Court ruins fairly easily.
For facilities, it's got what you'd expect: washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, TV. We include bedding and towels. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them. We allow up to two dogs.
