It's in the Northumberland International Dark Sky Park. On a clear night, you can see the stars very clearly. You need to book ahead for the Kielder Observatory.
The village pub is about a five minute walk away. They serve food. There's a little tea room and shop opposite the pub.
Kielder Water is close by. It's good for walking and cycling. There's a swimming pool and spa at Leaplish, about a ten minute drive.
Bellingham is nine miles away for banks and bigger shops. Hexham is about twenty-five miles. The coast, like Craster or Bamburgh, is a good hour's drive. Useful for planning: Northumberland National Park and Visit Northumberland.
