Ferny Rigg Byre is a converted farm building on our place at Donkleywood. It's for two people. You're on a working farm, but it's quiet. The views are just fields and sky.
It got done up a few years ago. Everything's on one level, which is handy. The front door is wide enough for a wheelchair. There's underfloor heating and a wood burner. The bed is kingsize and has a duvet filled with alpaca wool from our herd.
We keep alpacas here. You can see them from the garden. Sometimes we have spare eggs from our chickens.
You've got about three quarters of a mile of fishing on the North Tyne, just down the track. No charge for that.
The local pub is in Falstone, about a mile's walk. They do food. The nearest shop is in Bellingham, a ten minute drive.
Kielder Water is a ten to fifteen minute drive. You can go walking, cycling, or sailing there. The mountain bike trails are serious. There's also an observatory because it's a Dark Sky Park. On a clear night, you can see the stars properly from right outside the cottage.
You can get to Hadrian's Wall in under half an hour. Northumberland National Park has all the details for walks. The coast, like Craster or Alnmouth, is about forty-five minutes by car.
It has parking, an electric vehicle charger, WiFi, a washing machine, and a dishwasher. The garden is enclosed. No pets, sorry.
If you're coming with another couple, you can book it along with the bigger barn next door.
