Merry Burn Barn is on our working farm in Donkleywood. It's inside the Northumberland National Park. It's quiet here. You'll see fields and trees from the windows.
We renovated it in 2020. It's all on one level, which is handy. It’s for two people. One bedroom with a kingsize bed, and one bathroom. The bed has an alpaca duvet from our herd here.
The living area is open plan. There's a wood burning stove for cooler nights. You've got a dishwasher, washing machine, and WiFi. There's also an electric vehicle charger and parking outside.
You can walk to the local pub in Falstone, it’s about a mile. They do food. The nearest shop is about ten miles away in Bellingham, so you’ll want to come with supplies.
We keep alpacas on the farm, which you can see from the cottage. If we have spare eggs from our hens, we'll leave some for you. You also get fishing rights on about three quarters of a mile of the North Tyne river.
Kielder Water is a ten minute drive. You can do all sorts there: sailing, kayaking, mountain biking on the trails, or just walking. The visitor centres have cafes. The observatory is there too, if you want to look at the stars. This is a Dark Sky Park, so on a clear night it's very good.
Further out, you can get to Hadrian's Wall in under half an hour. The coast at Druridge Bay or Alnmouth is about an hour's drive.
If you need information for planning walks or days out, these sites are useful: Northumberland National Park, Visit Kielder, and English Heritage Hadrian's Wall.
No pets, I'm afraid. If you're coming with another couple, you can book the smaller cottage next door, Ferny Rigg Byre, as well.
