Railway Cuttings
Railway Cuttings is a bungalow, all on one floor. It's in Falstone, which is a small village right by Kielder Water. It used to be part of a railway station, hence the name. You're basically out in the countryside.
It sleeps four, in one double and one twin room. The bathroom is a wet room with a walk-in shower. It's got underfloor heating, which is good as it can get cold up here. The place is clean and modern inside.
There's a pub about 500 yards away, the Falstone Inn. They do food. There's also a little tea room with a shop opposite it. For anything bigger, Bellingham is about nine miles away. They've got banks, shops, the usual.
The main thing here is the location. You're inside the Northumberland International Dark Sky Park. On a clear night, you can see an incredible amount of stars right from the garden. No special equipment needed, just look up. The Kielder Observatory is up the road if you want to book a proper viewing session.
Kielder Water is basically on the doorstep. It's a huge reservoir. You can walk, cycle, or go sailing. There's a Waterside Park at Leaplish with a pub, restaurant, and a swimming pool.
If you want to drive out, Hexham is about half an hour. The Northumberland coast, like Craster or Bamburgh, is a bit over an hour. It makes for a good day out.
It's all on one level and has a walk-in shower, so it works well if you have mobility issues. There's parking. You can bring up to two dogs. The garden is yours to use.
There's another cottage next door called No 2 Railway Cuttings. You can book both together if you're a larger group.
