Haytongate Barn

Haytongate Barn is up behind our house in Lanercost. It's a stone building converted from an old barn, detached and on its own. It's quiet up there. The views are over fields.

It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one bathroom with a shower. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and well equipped. The ceiling is vaulted in the main living area, so it feels quite spacious for a barn.

You're right on the Hadrian's Wall Path. People walk past the gate all the time in the summer. There's a handy Roman Wall bus service stops in the village too. The Roman Way cycle route goes nearby.

The village of Lanercost is about a five minute drive. The priory ruins there are really something, run by English Heritage. Brampton is about three miles away. It's a small market town with shops and a few pubs. You can get to Carlisle in under half an hour if you need a bigger supermarket or the train station.

For walks, you can step straight onto the Wall Path. National Trust has a lot of the land around here. You can walk to Birdoswald Roman Fort from here along the path. The North Pennines and the Lake District are both within a 30 minute drive for a proper day out.

The facilities are all there. Wood burner for the colder months, dishwasher, washing machine, TV. There's a patio with a table and a barbecue. You can bring two dogs. Parking is right outside.
