Canterland Lodge is up near Craigo, just over the Aberdeenshire border from Angus. It's a semi-detached fishing lodge, part of a small steading called Balmaleedie. The River Esk is just down the bank from the garden.
It sleeps ten, with five bedrooms and four bathrooms. It's got a 5 Star rating, which means it's well kept and comfortable. The living room has a wood burner. The kitchen is open plan and has everything you'd need.
The garden is fully enclosed. There's a patio and a terrace that goes round the side. You can walk along the river from the house. You might see otters or fish jumping. Fishing in the river is possible, but it's seasonal and you have to arrange it with me well in advance. There's no guarantee.
The village of Marykirk is a short walk away. There's a pub there with a beer garden that does food. About a mile up the road, at Balmakewan, there's a good farm shop and a bistro.
You're well placed for getting out. The Angus Glens are close for serious walking. The coast at Montrose is about a 20 minute drive. The beach is sandy. Montrose Basin is there too, a nature reserve. You can see huge flocks of geese at certain times of year. It's about 30 minutes to places like Brechin or Stonehaven. Aberdeen is around 45 minutes by car if you need a city.
Facilities: it's all there. Washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, TV. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot if required. Plenty of parking right outside. No pets, sorry.
