It's Cefnaire Isaf, pronounced how it looks. That old barn just outside Newtown, the one you pass on the road to Welshpool. It's ours now.
It's big. Sleeps fourteen, six bedrooms, five bathrooms. That means no queues in the morning. It's got a 5 Star rating, which honestly just means everything works and it's very clean and comfortable. It's not a show home.
The main thing is the space. It was a barn, so the ceilings are high. There's a proper wood burner for winter. Outside, there's a fully enclosed garden and a hot tub. The garden gets the sun in the evening.
Inside, we put in a cinema room. It's got a big projector screen and surround sound. It's good for film nights if the weather turns. There's a dishwasher and a washing machine, and all the bedding and towels are included.
You can bring up to three dogs. The garden is enclosed, but it's not Fort Knox, so if your dog's a jumper, keep an eye out.
You're about three quarters of a mile from Newtown centre. You can walk it in 15 minutes if you don't mind a hill. It's a proper market town. Shops, pubs, cafes, a theatre. The river runs through it. There's a good summary on Visit Wales if you're planning.
From here, you're right in the middle of Wales. Snowdonia is about an hour north. The coast at Aberystwyth is about an hour west. The Elan Valley reservoirs are half an hour away for dramatic walks and driving. For local walking, the National Trust has good guides for Powys.
That's about it. Plenty of parking. It's a good base if you've got a big group and want to spread out.
