Longleat

It's called Longleat Cottage, but it's actually three cottages in one. You get the whole thing, so it sleeps ten. It's here in Witham Friary. It's a proper Somerset village, quiet. There's a pub and a playground at the bottom of the lane.

The place has been done up. It's a 5 Star, so that means it's all new inside, really clean and well-equipped. You won't be wanting for anything. There are five bedrooms and three bathrooms. One bedroom and a bathroom are on the ground floor, which is useful.

The main thing is the setting. It's on a 40-acre farm. You get views over fields and woods from the patio. There are deer and hares about. Two lakes as well. You can hand-feed the carp in the lower one. Don't plan on fishing, they're more like pets.

On site, there's a covered swimming pool, a tennis court, a games room, and a play area. It keeps everyone occupied. There's parking and an electric vehicle charger. The garden is yours, with a barbecue.

The pub, the Seymour Arms, is a five-minute walk. It's a traditional village pub, does food. The nearest proper shops are in Frome or Bruton, about six miles.

For things to do, you're well placed. Longleat's about ten minutes by car. Stourhead is even closer. Bath, Wells, Glastonbury, and the coast are all within an hour. The Mendip Hills and Cheddar Gorge are good for walks. The National Trust has a lot round here.
