Amisfield Tower

Amisfield Tower is a large, old house near Dumfries. It sleeps 19 people. There are ten bedrooms and four bathrooms.

It's a historic place. The tower itself is listed and dates back to the 1500s. The main house is attached to it. Because of the age, the layout is a bit different. Some of the bedrooms are on the lower ground floor, which is like a basement level. The stairs are stone and can be uneven. The doorways are sometimes low.

Inside, it's spacious. There's a big hall, several sitting rooms, and a large kitchen with a four-oven Aga. The furniture is a mix of old and comfortable. The rating is 4 Star, which covers the size and facilities, but remember it's an old building, not a modern hotel.

Outside, there are gardens. There's also an outbuilding called The Hut, which has heating and a wood burner, so you can sit out there even when it's cold.

You can bring two dogs. There's parking on site. All bedding and towels are included. There's a washing machine and a dishwasher.

The area is quiet and rural. Dumfries is about ten minutes away by car for shops and pubs.

For things to do, Drumlanrig Castle is close. It's a big estate with gardens and walking trails. Drumlanrig Castle. Caerlaverock Castle is about half an hour's drive. It's an unusual triangular castle. The WWT Caerlaverock Wetland Centre is next to it if you like birdwatching. For walks or mountain biking, Mabie Forest is nearby. The coast at Southerness is roughly 25 minutes away.
