The Old Chequers

The Old Chequers is an old pub building in South Creake. It stopped being a pub a while ago, so it's just a big house now. It sleeps fourteen, which sounds like a lot, but it has six bedrooms and each one has its own bathroom, so it manages it.

It's a detached, brick place with a walled garden at the back. The garden gets the sun in the evening. There's a wood-fired hot tub out there, which you need to light yourself a few hours before you want to use it.

Inside, it's mostly set up for big groups. The kitchen is large and has most things you'd need. There are two sitting rooms and a conservatory, so people can spread out. Upstairs, the stairs are normal. The bedrooms are good sizes and all have decent en suites.

There's a separate games room with a pool table and some arcade machines. It's in the outbuilding.

As for the area, South Creake is quiet. There's a village shop and a pub, The Ostrich, which is a few minutes' walk away. It's about a fifteen minute drive to the coast at Wells-next-the-Sea or Burnham Market. Holkham Beach is a bit further, maybe twenty five minutes.

The facilities are what you'd expect for the size: plenty of parking, a washing machine, dishwasher, bedding and towels included. You can bring up to two dogs. There's a cot and highchair if you need them.

For planning, the National Trust for Norfolk has details on beaches and estates like Blickling. The Visit Norfolk site is useful for general information.
