The Ryeland Retreat

The Ryeland Retreat is one of three shepherd's huts on the grounds of Godwick Hall. It's my place. It sleeps two, just one bedroom and one bathroom. It's got a 5 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and everything works, but it's still a hut. You're in a field.

It's private and quiet. You'll see sheep. You'll hear birds. That's about it for noise. The hut has a wood burner for heat, a small fridge, and a microwave. There's hot running water, a shower, and a toilet. The bed is a proper double. The floors are oak. It's clean and dry.

You can order breakfast to be brought to you in the morning, like pastries or bacon rolls. You can also add things like a bottle of fizz in the fridge, or a BBQ pack, when you book. There's parking right there.

It's about half an hour's drive to the north Norfolk coast. Wells-next-the-Sea and Holkham Beach are that way. Norwich is about 40 minutes in the other direction. King's Lynn is closer, maybe 25 minutes, and that's where you get the train if you need it.

If you're looking for information on the area, the National Trust Norfolk site is useful for coastal walks and estates. Visit Norfolk has general information.

The other two huts, Norfolk Horn and Herdwick Hideaway, are similar. You can book all three together if there's a group of you.
