Kinness Lodge is in St Andrews. It's in the grounds of a big hotel, but it's a detached place. You've got your own parking and entrance.
It sleeps eight. Four bedrooms, all with their own bathrooms. That's the main thing about it. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's well kitted out and modern. There's a decent sized kitchen for cooking if you want to, and a lounge that opens onto a balcony. You look out over the hotel gardens and can hear the stream.
You're separate from the hotel, but you can use it. You can walk over for a meal or a drink. It's up to you. The town centre is a few minutes' drive, or about a twenty minute walk.
For golf, you're right there. The Old Course is about a mile away. The university and the beaches are close too. You can walk to the West Sands easily.
There's a wood burning stove for colder nights. Washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, all that's included. Bedding and towels too. You can bring up to two dogs.
If you're planning trips, the National Trust for Scotland Fife Coast site has good information on walks. For the historic side of things, Historic Environment Scotland lists the castles and sites nearby.
