The Old Stables

The Old Stables is in Ayston. It's a barn conversion that we renovated a couple of years ago. It's all on one level, which is handy. There's a wood burner for cooler evenings.

It sleeps six. Three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Both showers are walk-in with grab rails. The kitchen worktops are a bit lower than usual, and you can roll under the sink. We tried to make it easy for everyone to use.

You're right in the countryside. There are fields with cattle grazed by the farm next door. The garden is a bit wild and looks out over that. It's enclosed. There's parking right outside.

The local pub is about a mile down the road in the village. They do food. For shops and cafes, Uppingham and Oakham are a short drive away. Stamford is lovely if you want a proper market town.

Rutland Water is the main thing here. It's a big reservoir with a path all the way around. You can walk, cycle, or go birdwatching. They do sailing and other water sports in the summer. It's about a ten minute drive. Useful link for planning: Rutland Water.

Within half an hour you can get to Rockingham Castle, Burghley House, or Barnsdale Gardens. If you like horses, the Burghley Horse Trials are a big event.

Facilities: there's a dishwasher, washing machine, WiFi, and an electric vehicle charger. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring up to three dogs. The place connects to another cottage called The Tack Room through a garden gate, so you can book both together if you're a larger group.
