Hen Hafod is up near Bala. It's a detached cottage on a sheep farm at the end of a concrete farm track. You're on your own out there, just fields and the views. It's very quiet.
It sleeps six people. Three bedrooms and two bathrooms, which is handy. There are two separate staircases upstairs, which is a bit unusual but it works. The place has a black range in the living room, slate floors, and oak beams. It's got character. It's a 3 Star place, so it's comfortable and clean but not over the top.
You're about a mile and a half from Bala town. There's a shop and a couple of pubs there. Bala Lake is there for sailing or messing about on the water. You can walk straight from the cottage gate into the countryside.
You're right on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park. It's about a twenty minute drive to get right into the park for the big mountains. For a day out, National Trust Wales has places like Chirk Castle about forty minutes away. Portmeirion is under an hour's drive.
The facilities: there's a washing machine, a cot and highchair if you need them, bedding is included, and you can park right there. It says it's Christmas themed, which means we put up some basic decorations if you're staying over the holiday. You can bring up to two dogs.
