Crogen Coach House is near the village of Llandrillo in North Wales. It's a big old stone building that was converted from stables. It sits on a private estate.
It sleeps 17 people. Nine bedrooms, five bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating. Because it's so big, it can actually be split into two separate houses if you want, with a locked door between them. That can be useful for two families sharing.
The place is south-facing and gets the sun. There's a sheltered veranda. Inside, there are wood-burning stoves and open fires. The rooms are spacious, not fancy, but solid.
You get access to 2500 acres of the estate land for walking. There's about four miles of river fishing for salmon and trout, but you need to arrange that in advance. If you have horses, there's stabling available by arrangement too. An all-weather tennis court is about 50 yards away.
There's a high ropes course and paintballing in the forest, less than half a mile up the road. The facilities list says there's a games room and a kids' play area on site.
For shops and a pub, you need to drive about a mile and a half. There are two gastropub-type hotels about the same distance away.
Location-wise, you're right on the edge of the Berwyn Mountains. Bala Lake, which is the biggest natural lake in Wales, is about a 20 minute drive. Good for watersports. Llangollen is about 15 minutes the other way, for the canal, steam railway, and white-water rafting. Corwen is closer.
For a bigger day out, Snowdonia National Park is within half an hour's drive. Chester and Shrewsbury in England are both just under an hour away.
Practical stuff: it accepts up to two pets. There's parking right there. Bedding and towels are included. It has WiFi, a washing machine, dishwasher. They provide a cot and highchair if needed.
