Lily Lodge

Lily Lodge is in Lower Diabaig in the Scottish Highlands. It's a detached house that sleeps ten. Five bedrooms, three bathrooms. It's a 5 Star property, which means it's a high standard, but I'd still call it comfortable. It's not too precious.

The road to get here is incredible. It's part of the experience. It's a single track road for the last section, so you'll need to take it slow and use the passing places. The views are breathtaking. It's common to see people just stopped in a layby looking at the mountains.

The house itself is light and spacious. The big open plan living room has a sunroom on the end, so you get the view even if it's raining. The utility room is handy for boots and coats. Most of the bedrooms look out over the bay or the hills.

There's a bothy in the garden that sleeps two. It's more basic than the main house, but it's dry and warm and has its own little kitchen. It's useful if you're a bigger group and want a bit of extra space.

In the village, there's a historic curved pier. It's a proper working pier, so you might see boats coming and going. There's a restaurant about a five minute walk away. For a shop or a pub, you're looking at a 9 or 11 mile drive back towards Shieldaig.

The location is for walkers and people who don't mind being a bit remote. Torridon is about 20 minutes away for some of the best mountain scenery in the country. You're also close to the Beinn Eighe nature reserve. Gairloch is to the north, and the Applecross peninsula is to the south, which you can see from the house.

Facilities: it's got a woodburning stove, full kitchen with a dishwasher, washing machine, WiFi, TV, and parking. The garden is enclosed. Bedding and towels are included. No pets.
