Vindolanda

Vindolanda is in Ardheslaig, which is part of the Applecross peninsula in the Highlands. It's a two bedroom cottage that sleeps four.

The rating is 4 Star. It's comfortable and clean. The view is the main thing. You look straight out over Loch Torridon to the mountains. You can see them from almost every room.

It's a croft house, so the layout is straightforward. Two living rooms, one at each end, both with open fires. The kitchen is in the middle. Stairs go up from there to the bedrooms. Both bedrooms are doubles. The bathroom is between them.

There's a track down to the cottage. It's fine for a normal car. You park right outside. There's a small enclosed garden at the front with some steps up to the door.

The beach isn't right at the door. It's a short walk down a path to a sandy cove. You'll see wildlife. Seals, otters, eagles sometimes. At night, if it's clear, you can see an incredible number of stars.

Applecross village is about a 10 mile drive. The road is single track with passing places. It goes over the Bealach na Bà, which is quite a climb. Drive it in daylight the first time. The village has a pub, a restaurant in the walled garden, a shop and a cafe.

For a bigger day out, Torridon is about 40 minutes by car. Skye is about an hour and a half.

Facilities: there's a washing machine, dishwasher, TV, and WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them. Parking is on site. No pets.
