Rubha Lodge is in Shieldaig, which is in Wester Ross. It's a detached house right on the water, looking out at Shieldaig Island.
It sleeps five. Two bedrooms, but three bathrooms, which is unusual. There's a main bedroom with a super king bed and a second bedroom with a king and a single. Both are upstairs. The rating is 5 Star, which means it's very well finished.
The main thing is the living room window. It's a huge picture window facing the sea. You'll spend most of your time looking out of it. We've left binoculars there because you often see sea eagles over the island, plus seals and otters. There's a wood burner for colder evenings.
The kitchen is big and has an island with stools. Off that is a utility room and a shower room. There's another bathroom downstairs with a shower and a roll-top bath. The stairs are fine, normal stairs. Upstairs there's a small area with a desk if you need it.
Outside is a small, walled garden with some chairs. The house has its own access to a shingle beach, but it's a bit of a scramble down. It's nice for a picnic if you don't mind the walk back up.
The village is a short walk. There's a hotel, a pub, a restaurant, and a village store. There's also a good place for coffee and cakes called Nannies. You can get fresh smoked salmon and pâté locally. If you ask in advance, sometimes a local fisherman can get you some prawns.
The drive in from Torridon is about six miles. It's a very scenic road, so people often take their time.
For walks and days out, the Walkhighlands page for Torridon has good routes. The National Trust for Scotland page for Torridon is useful too. Beinn Eighe nature reserve is about a 20-minute drive.
Included: all bedding and towels, WiFi, TV, dishwasher, washing machine. Parking for two cars on the drive. No pets.
