The Otters
The Otters is actually a set of four barns on our deer farm in Cadeleigh. It's not a single house, it's a group. They're about a hundred yards apart from each other. You get the whole group when you book, so it sleeps sixteen. That's eight bedrooms, each with its own bathroom.
It's a five-star rating, which means it's well-finished. Underfloor heating, that sort of thing. Three of the barns have private hot tubs, one doesn't. The owners leave a bottle of fizz for you when you arrive.
The setting is the main thing. It's a forty-acre farm. The barns look out over our ponds and the fields where the red deer graze. You'll see them out the windows. Sometimes we spot otters in the ponds. The ponds aren't fenced, but the gardens for each barn are.
You get here via an unmade track off the lane. It's fine for normal cars, just a bit bumpy.
The village pub is about half a mile away. The nearest proper shop is in Tiverton, about six miles. Exeter is nine miles for bigger shops and the cathedral.
For local walks, Bickleigh Mill is good. They've got a little railway and a cafe by the river. Tiverton Canal is nearby if you fancy a boat trip or a walk along the towpath. The north Devon coast, with the big cliffs and beaches, is about an hour's drive. Exmoor National Park is also within easy reach for a day out.
Facilities: everything's included like bedding and towels. There's a washing machine in Deer Park, WiFi, and parking right outside each barn. The place is wheelchair accessible on the ground floor. We allow up to two dogs.
We sometimes rent the barns separately, but when you book The Otters, you get all four. It works for bigger groups.
