The Mews

The Mews is a first-floor apartment in High Ellington, North Yorkshire. It’s in a courtyard, adjoined to our Victorian house. It used to be the granary and bothy over the stables.

It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one bathroom. It’s a 4 Star rating, so it’s comfortable and well-equipped. The stairs up to it are external, stone steps. They’re fine, but worth noting if you have a lot of luggage or anyone with mobility issues.

You have access to about an acre and a half of our walled gardens and orchard. There are lawns, a croquet set, a table tennis table in the summer house, and a small woodland walk with a pond. It’s all shared with us, but we’re usually just pottering about.

The town of Masham is about a mile and a half away. That’s where you’ll find shops, a few pubs, and tea rooms. The Black Sheep and Theakston breweries are there if you like a tour. For a treat, you can book afternoon tea at Swinton Park, which is a grand sort of place about ten minutes away.

Ripon is under ten miles. It’s got a cathedral, a market, and a racecourse. Lightwater Valley theme park is about seven miles away if you’ve got kids. The historic city of York is about 37 miles, so best for a day trip.

For walking, you’re on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. You can drive into the National Park easily. For local history, Fountains Abbey is about a twenty-minute drive.

In terms of what’s here: there’s a woodburning stove, a dishwasher, WiFi, TV, and parking right outside. Bedding and towels are included. The garden is enclosed. No pets, sorry.
