Hawthorn Cottage
Hawthorn Cottage is in Southerness. It's a single-storey cottage, so everything's on the ground floor. It sleeps four people. There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms.
It's right on the edge of the beach. The view from the front is just sea and sky, looking over to the Lake District. You can see the old lighthouse from the window. In the winter, you can watch the geese on the mudflats. Sometimes you see porpoises.
The living room has a woodburning stove for cooler nights. There's a Smart TV with Netflix and Amazon, and the WiFi works fine. The garden is enclosed, which is good if you've got kids or a dog. You can park on the drive.
The facilities are all here: washing machine, dishwasher, bedding and towels are included. It's got a 4 Star rating.
There's a pub in the village. The Southerness golf course is about a five minute walk away. If you're here for the outdoors, you're in the middle of the 7Stanes mountain biking trails. For birdwatchers, RSPB Mersehead is very close and WWT Caerlaverock isn't far either.
Dumfries is about a 20 minute drive for bigger shops. You can get to a lot of the historic castles and abbeys around here in under half an hour. The Machars and the Galloway Hills are also within easy reach for a day out.
