Hawthorn Cottage is in Southerness, on the Solway coast. It's a single-storey cottage, so everything's on the ground floor. You look right out over the beach and the sea. The view is straight across the Solway Firth to the Lake District hills. The old lighthouse is right there too.
It sleeps four in two bedrooms. Both have their own bathroom, which is handy. It's a 4 Star place, so it's comfortable and has what you need. The living room has a woodburning stove for cooler evenings, and a Smart TV with Netflix and such.
The beach is mostly sand and rock, starts just there. You can sit in the enclosed garden or on the patio and watch it. You'll see birds all the time. In winter, thousands of geese come in. If you're lucky, you might spot otters or porpoises from the window. The RSPB reserve at Mersehead is very close, and WWT Caerlaverock isn't far for a day out.
The Southerness golf course is a five minute walk. It's a proper links course, quite challenging. There's a local pub within walking distance as well.
For getting out, you're right in the middle of the 7Stanes mountain biking trails. You can drive to a lot of historic sights like castles and abbeys within half an hour. The Machars peninsula and the Galloway hills are easy to reach for a drive or a walk.
Facilities: it has parking, WiFi, a washing machine, and a dishwasher. Bedding and towels are included. No pets, sorry.
