Smiddy Cottage

Smiddy Cottage is a bungalow we built ourselves, out near Alyth. It's in a hamlet called Shanzie, just off the Ruthven road. You're right in the countryside here.

It sleeps six in three bedrooms. There are two bathrooms, which helps. It's got a 3 Star rating, so it's comfortable and clean. Everything is on one floor, which people seem to like.

The main rooms face south, so it gets the sun. There's an open fire in the lounge for when it gets cold. The garden is large and fairly private, surrounded by woods. You can walk straight out into the trees, or down to the River Isla.

Being where it is, you really need a car. Alyth is a few minutes drive away for shops. Dundee is about 18 miles, Perth is 22. The Glenshee ski road is 19 miles if you're going that way in winter.

For golf, Alyth golf course is very close. Blairgowrie, with its championship courses, isn't far either. If you like walking or wildlife, you're in the right place. You can see red squirrels around here. There are beaver safaris on the Tay, and the Cateran Ecomuseum covers this whole area.

It's a pet friendly place. You can bring up to three dogs. There's bike storage if you're cycling, and a washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. Parking is right outside.

Some useful links for planning: Scotland's Parks, for general walks and nature, and the Cateran Ecomuseum which explains this whole landscape.
