The House On The Point

The House on the Point is exactly what it sounds like. It's the oldest house in Kylerhea, and it's right on the tip of the point. It's so close to the water you can hear the waves against the rocks from inside.

It's detached, two bedrooms, sleeps four. It's got a 3 Star rating. There's one bathroom and a shower. The website says it's ten to twelve feet from the high tide line, which feels about right. You're practically on top of it.

The main thing here is the wildlife. You'll see seals and otters regularly from the windows. Dolphins and basking sharks come by often. There are golden eagles up on the ridges. Two resident sea eagles, Victor and Orla, are usually around too. They're known for stealing fish from the gulls right outside.

In the field behind the house we keep Hebridean sheep and a couple of Shetland ponies. Roe and red deer come through, along with pine martens, foxes, that sort of thing. You can fly fish from the rocks out front.

The house is at the end of a small track, so there's no traffic. It's very quiet. You can take the little community ferry from Glenelg over the Kylerhea Narrows. It runs from about 10am to between 6 and 7pm, depending on the season. They don't take bookings but they won't leave you stranded.

Inside, there's a woodburning stove, a dishwasher, WiFi, and TV. Bedding and towels are included. There's on-site parking. We can provide a cot and highchair if needed. One well-behaved dog is welcome.

Because it faces north over the water, it's a good spot for seeing the Northern Lights when conditions are right.

If you want to explore, you're on the edge of the Kylerhea trail network. The ferry connects you to Glenelg on the mainland. Skye's main attractions, like the National Trust for Scotland's Glenelg & Ratagan or the Kyleakin area, are within a 30-minute drive.
