Riverfoot

Riverfoot is in Galltair, that's just outside the village of Glenelg. It's a detached bungalow, so everything's on one level. That seems to suit a lot of people.

It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, which is handy. The rating is 3 Star. It's clean and comfortable. It's not a show home, it's a place to come back to after being out.

You've got a patio and a garden that leads straight down to the shore. It's not a sandy beach, it's stony, but you can be by the water in a minute. You can watch the ferries going across to Skye from the garden. The view is the main thing.

There's a pub in Glenelg village, about a mile away. They do food. The shop there is small but it has the basics.

For a proper beach, you drive over to Arnisdale or on to Sandaig Bay. That's the one Gavin Maxwell wrote about in "Ring of Bright Water". It's about a twenty minute drive, maybe a bit less. The road is single track.

The Glenelg Brochs, Dun Telve and Dun Troddan, are just up the road. They're Iron Age towers and some of the best preserved in Scotland. They're free to visit and you can just walk up to them.

If you want to go further, you're about an hour from Eilean Donan Castle and maybe an hour and a half from Fort William. The ferry to Skye from Glenelg runs in the summer months and takes you to Kylerhea. You can sometimes see otters from the old ferry pier there.

Facilities wise, it's got what you'd expect. Washing machine, dishwasher, wifi, TV. Bedding and towels are included. There's parking right there. No pets, I'm afraid.

Useful links if you're planning: Historic Environment Scotland for the brochs and other sites, and National Trust for Scotland for Glencoe which is within an hour's drive.
