The Old Broadley Chapel

The Old Broadley Chapel is a converted chapel near Lewdown, just on the Devon side of the border with Cornwall. It’s detached, with parking off the road and a garden to the side.

It sleeps six across three bedrooms and has three bathrooms, which is handy. One’s en-suite, there’s a family bathroom upstairs, and a shower room downstairs. We take one well-behaved dog.

It’s a 5 Star place, so it’s well-equipped and finished to a high standard. The main thing is the space inside. It’s all open-plan downstairs with a high vaulted ceiling. There’s a wood burner in the old stone chimney breast. The kitchen’s got granite worktops, a dishwasher, and a couple of coffee machines. The stairs lead up to a galleried landing that looks down over the living area. The bedrooms are up there.

You’re right on the edge of Dartmoor here. The views from the front are over farmland towards the moor. It’s very quiet. There’s a pub in Lewdown, a few minutes’ walk away.

Roadford Lake is about a 15-minute drive. You can do sailing, windsurfing, or fishing there. For walking, Lydford Gorge is close by and is National Trust. Tavistock is about 20 minutes away by car, and Launceston in Cornwall is about the same. Plymouth’s roughly half an hour if you need a bigger town.

What’s here: all bedding and towels are included, there’s a washing machine, TV, WiFi, a highchair, and parking. The wood burner has an initial supply of logs provided.
