The Thatched Cottage and Piglet Lodge sit next to each other and makes a perfect combination for a multi generational family or two couples wanting extra privacy. You enter this charming holiday cottage from the porch straight into the well-equipped kitchen with exposed beams, country style finishes and a warming Aga. The living/dining room is a beautiful warm comfortable space with wood burner in the inglenook fireplace, perfect for those chilly evenings. The dining area is slightly elevated and is a great spot for lazy breakfasts or casual evening dining. A door with the traditional Sussex latch leads up the steep stairs to the first floor with some low exposed beams. The double bedroom is beautifully furnished with floral patterns and cosy quilted throws. The twin bedroom overlooks the garden and has been finished to a high standard.
Piglet Lodge has a double bed, relaxing sofa with foot rests and there is a unique feature a Japanese soaking bath. The kitchen area has a combination microwave oven and two ring hob just for that extra flexibility however most guests will use the kitchen in the cottage.
The cottage and lodge sit in the grounds of the owners’ home but you have a third of an acre of enclosed landscaped garden all to yourself. A stone terrace area directly outside the cottage with seating and sun loungers with cushions is the perfect spot to soak up the sunshine or enjoy an evening tipple. If you are bringing your bicycles, storage can be provided and there is parking for up to four cars all behind electric gates.
The Thatched Cottage is just two miles from Battle Abbey and the battlefields where the famous 1066 Battle of Hastings took place. The town of Battle is a vibrant mix of coffee shops, tea rooms, independent boutiques, restaurants and the usual high street stores with a good mix of history and pretty buildings. Visit the famous 11th-century abbey, built by William the Conqueror, and explore the ruins and grounds and enjoy the interactive displays and information at the visitors centre. In the autumn months you can watch the re-enactment of the Battle of Hastings and this draws performers from all over Europe. If you are lucky enough to visit during Bonfire season then you must catch the torch lit procession that marches through the town and finishes with a huge bonfire and fantastic firework display. Along with these events the town has a busy social calendar throughout the year with music, arts and even a scarecrow festival so something for all the family.
The seaside town of Hastings is nine miles away and provides your usual seaside amusements, crazy golf, sea life centre, fisherman’s museum, the biggest indoor skate park pier amusements and miles of promenade. Bexhill on Sea is under ten miles away and has a more relaxed nostalgic seaside town feel. For those who enjoy music and arts, the popular De La Warr Pavilion has a full schedule to appeal to everyone’s taste. A little further afield is the medieval town of Rye with its famous cobbled Mermaid Street and colourful smugglers past. Just three miles on from Rye is Camber, one of the best sandy beaches on the south coast. So whether you wish to walk the trails on the High Weald Way, visit castles and National Trust houses and gardens, enjoy stunning cliff ambles or eat fish and chips on the promenade, The Thatched Cottage makes for the perfect holiday base.
