The surrounding area is breathtaking from the rugged coastlines and secluded sandy beaches and inland the Galloway Forest Park, Britian’s largest forest park with 300 square miles of wild beauty and where you will find the world renowned 7Stanes Mountain Bike Trail at Kirroughtree. A short 5-minute drive from The Old Bakery will take you to the Isle of Whithorn an attractive little harbour village where you can sail, fish or just sit and relax overlooking the bay while perhaps enjoying a meal or glass of wine in the pub or tearoom. Visit Wigtown, which has officially been designated as Scotland’s National Book Town with a wide range of book related businesses, a book lovers haven. The larger town of Newton Stewart, known as the Gateway to the Galloway Hills, also has many excellent shops and places to eat. Further along the coast, visit the many pretty little ports like Sandhead and Portpatrick, or visit Scotland’s most southerly point, the RSPB Scotland Mull of Galloway Nature Reserve, where thousands of seabirds nest in the cliff face during the spring and summer. Return to The Old Bakery and relax in the hot tub where you can marvel at the dark starry skies.
