Widows Cottage

Widows Cottage is in Bayles, Cumbria. It’s an old 18th-century place, stone built, up a fairly steep gravel track. It’s next to our house, but very quiet.

It’s on the edge of the Tyne Valley looking over towards the North Pennine hills. You can’t see other houses, just trees and fields.

It sleeps six across two bedrooms, so it’s quite a squeeze. One family bathroom. It’s got a Three Star rating, so it’s comfortable but not posh. The hot water is solar powered, which works fine most of the time.

There’s a woodburning stove. The garden is enclosed and there’s a barbecue. You get parking right by the cottage.

Alston is about a mile away. It’s got steep cobbled streets, a few shops for the basics, and some good pubs that do food.

For walking, you can get straight onto local footpaths and tracks from here. The Pennine Way is accessible. It’s very good for mountain biking. There’s the South Tynedale steam railway nearby too.

Hadrian’s Wall and the Lake District are both about a half hour’s drive away.

Facilities include a washing machine, WiFi, and a TV. We can provide a cot and highchair. Bedding is included. You can bring up to two dogs.
