Widows Cottage

This is Widows Cottage in Bayles. It's an old stone place, from the 1700s. You get a bit of a drive up to it, it's a steep gravel track. The setting is the main thing. You're looking out over the Tyne Valley and the North Pennine fells. It's very quiet. The owners live next door.

It says it sleeps six, but that's across two bedrooms, so bear that in mind. It's bunk beds and a double. Just the one bathroom. It's got a 3 Star rating. It's comfortable and has what you need, but it's not a show home. The hot water's solar powered, which works fine.

You can walk out from the door onto the local tracks. The Pennine Way is right there if you're serious about walking. Alston is a mile away. It's got steep cobbled streets and a few decent pubs. There's a steam railway and some old mining heritage places if that's your sort of thing.

The Lake District National Park and Hadrian's Wall are both about a half hour drive. That's easy for a day trip.

For facilities, you've got a wood burning stove, a TV, and WiFi. The garden is enclosed, which is good if you're bringing dogs. We allow up to two. There's parking right outside. We include bedding. There's a washing machine, a cot, and a highchair if you need them.
