Mark Close Milking Parlour is near Alston in Cumbria. It's a single-storey place, converted from the old milking shed on the farm. Sleeps two in one bedroom, one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's done to a good standard.
It's all on the ground floor. The garden is enclosed and looks out over fields and fells. There's a hot tub out there. The owners provide dressing gowns and slippers for it.
Alston town is about a 15 or 20 minute walk away. It's up on the cobbles. There are pubs, cafés, and a few shops like a butcher and baker. It's the highest market town in England and feels quite remote, in a good way.
The cottage is in the North Pennines, which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. You're right on the edge of the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales, and Northumberland. Hadrian's Wall isn't far. You can drive to the coast or into Scotland in under an hour.
On the farm next door, there are five alpacas in a paddock. They're friendly.
In the area, you've got the South Tynedale Railway, which is a narrow-gauge steam train. There's good walking on the Pennine Way or Isaac's Tea Trail. Killhope Lead Mining Centre is worth a visit if you're interested in that. For a bigger day out, Kielder Water is about 45 minutes by car.
Facilities: parking is on site. There's a woodburning stove, a washing machine, WiFi, and TV. Bedding and towels are included. It's wheelchair accessible, with grab rails and a walk-in shower. A cot is available. We accept up to two dogs.
