Lord Mayors Barn

Lord Mayors Barn is in Bayles, a hamlet just outside Alston. It's a detached stone barn we converted, next to our own house.

It sleeps four in two bedrooms. There's one bathroom with a shower. It has a 4 Star rating.

The main thing is the view from the living room. There's a big arched window that looks straight out across the fields to the fells. It's a good spot to sit. The room has a wood burning stove for cool evenings. You'll see the old beams and some of the stonework. The rest is modern and straightforward.

The garden is yours to use. There's parking right there. You can store bikes if you bring them.

It's quiet here. The nearest shop and a couple of pubs are about a 15 minute walk into Alston. They're decent. Alston itself has cobbled streets and feels old-fashioned.

You can walk straight from the door onto the footpaths. It's good for cycling too. For a bigger day out, you're about half an hour's drive from the edge of the Lake District, or from Hadrian's Wall.

Inside there's a washing machine, a dishwasher, WiFi, and a TV. Bedding and towels are included. No pets, sorry.

If you're planning trips, these might be useful: Lake District National Park, English Heritage Hadrian's Wall, and the North Pennines AONB site.
