Lord Mayors Barn is in Bayles, near Alston. It's our place, converted from an old barn. We live next door. It's detached and sits by itself in the fields.
It sleeps four people. Two bedrooms and one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's comfortable and well-equipped. The main living room has a big arched window that looks straight out at the fells. You get the view, but you also get the weather coming in off them, which is part of it.
There's a wood burning stove for chilly evenings. The beams and some stonework are original, so mind your head in a couple of spots. The stairs up to the bedrooms are fine, just normal.
You've got your own patio and garden area. There's parking right there. Facilities are what you'd expect: dishwasher, washing machine, wifi, TV. Bedding and towels are included. We can take one well-behaved dog.
Alston town is about three quarters of a mile away. It's a proper old market town with cobbled streets, a couple of shops, and pubs. The nearest one is a walkable distance if you don't mind the hill back.
You're right on the edge of the North Pennines, which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The walking from the door is good. For a bigger day out, the Lake District is about a 40 minute drive. National Trust Lake District has walking ideas. Hadrian's Wall is around half an hour east.
If you're bringing bikes, there's storage. There's a golf course nearby and fishing on the South Tyne.
