Writers Cottage

Writers Cottage is in Nentsberry, which is a small part of Nenthead village. Nenthead itself is up at about 1500 feet, so it's high up on the moor. It was built for mine workers a long time ago. The views over the village and the fields from the cottage are really good.

It's a barn conversion. It sleeps two, one bedroom and one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. The living area is upstairs to make the most of the view. That means the bedroom is downstairs. The stairs are standard, not a problem.

It's very quiet here. You get the sounds of the wind and the sheep. The garden is yours to use. There's parking right there.

Nenthead has a couple of pubs that do food. For a bigger shop, you go to Alston. That's about four miles down the road. It's a proper little market town. They've got the South Tynedale Railway there, which is a narrow-gauge steam train. It's a nice thing to do.

You can walk straight out from the door onto the moors. It's all part of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. For the historically minded, there are a lot of old mine entrances around. Please be careful if you explore.

If you want to drive out, you're about half an hour from Hadrian's Wall. The Lake District is also within about half an hour's drive, depending on which bit you're aiming for.

Facilities: it's got a woodburning stove, a dishwasher, WiFi, TV, and a shower. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them. We accept up to two dogs.
