This is Writers Cottage, in Nentsberry near Nenthead. Nenthead is a very high-up village, over 1500 feet. It was built for miners a long time ago. It's quiet up there, just moorland and farms.
The cottage is a barn conversion, for two people. One bedroom, one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. The living area is upstairs. We did that so you get a better view from the sofa. You can see right over the village.
It has a woodburning stove, which is good for cool evenings. There's a dishwasher, WiFi, and a TV. Parking is right outside. The garden is a patio area. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring up to two dogs. We've also got a cot and a highchair if you need them.
Nenthead itself is small. The nearest proper town is Alston, about four miles away. It's a market town. They have shops and a few places to eat. The South Tynedale Railway starts there, which is a narrow-gauge steam train.
The area is all about walking and the landscape. It's part of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There's a lot of old mine workings around if that interests you. For a big day out, the city of Carlisle is about a 40 minute drive. The northern Lake District, like Keswick, is within an hour.
This cottage can be booked together with the place next door, Ramblers Res, if you're a bigger group.
