Mark Close Farmhouse is in Alston. It's a detached stone farmhouse on the edge of town, maybe a 20 minute walk to the main street. It sleeps a lot of people, up to 18 across nine bedrooms. There are five bathrooms.
It's a 4 Star place, so it's comfortable and well-equipped. It's not minimalist. It's a big, solid house for big groups.
The garden is large, with a patio area and a view over fields. There's a paddock next door with five alpacas. They're friendly.
Inside, it's set up for groups. There's a farmhouse kitchen for big meals, and a wood burner in the living room. It has WiFi, a dishwasher, washing machine, things like that. Bedding and towels are included. Parking is on site.
You can bring up to three dogs. There's also a cot and highchair if needed. The entrance is wheelchair accessible, but it's an old farmhouse so you should check the internal layout if you have specific mobility requirements.
Alston is a small town. It's the highest market town in England. There are a couple of pubs, some cafes, and a few shops. It's quiet.
The location is good for getting to different places. You're in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Lake District and Yorkshire Dales are about an hour's drive. Hadrian's Wall is within 45 minutes. The Northumberland coast, with its castles, is also within an hour or so.
If you want to stay local, there's walking straight from the door. The Pennine Way passes nearby. You can visit the local lead mining centres at Killhope or Nenthead. Alston has a small narrow-gauge railway.
There's a separate one-bedroom cottage next door called the Milking Parlour. It sleeps two and has its own hot tub. It can be rented separately if part of your group wants more privacy.
