Ramblers Rest is in Nentsberry. It's a converted barn near Nenthead, which claims to be England's highest village. It's at 1500 feet, up in the North Pennines. The views are of farmland and moorland. It's quiet.
The barn sleeps six. There are two bedrooms and one bathroom. It's a 4 Star rating. It's spread over three floors. The living room is on the first floor, so you get those views from the windows. The stairs are steep in parts, as you'd expect in an old barn.
Down on the lower ground floor there's a sauna. It's there if you want it.
Nenthead itself was built for lead mining. The mines are long closed, but if you're into that sort of thing, there are a lot of old mine entries around. Alston is about four miles away. It's a proper market town with shops and pubs. They're known for local cheese and mustard. The South Tynedale Railway, a narrow-gauge heritage line, starts there.
You're right in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Walking from the door is what it's for. For a bigger day out, the Northern Lake District is about a 30 minute drive. Keswick would be your main point for that.
Facilities: there's a woodburning stove, dishwasher, TV, WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. There's parking. You can bring up to two dogs. We provide a cot and a highchair.
