Macduff Tower

Macduff Tower is an apartment inside Kinnaird Castle on the Kinnaird Estate, outside Brechin in Angus. It's on the second floor. You get the use of a private garden bit outside.

It sleeps four in two bedrooms. Both bedrooms have their own bathroom, which is useful. It's got a five star rating, so it's well looked after and finished to a high standard. The stairs inside are castle stairs, so they're a bit grand but also just normal stairs.

The place is part of a big estate that's been here for centuries. There are paths through the woods and down to the river. You might see red squirrels or woodpeckers. You can use the tennis court. It's very quiet.

The owner leaves a welcome pack with basics like bread, butter, eggs, bacon, and some cereal. They can also arrange for a proper meal to be left for your first night if you ask ahead. Saves you having to go out straight away.

There's a shop and a pub in Edzell, about three miles away. The coast at Montrose is about seven miles if you want a beach day. The RSPB reserve at Montrose Basin is good for birdwatching.

For golf, there's a course at Edzell and the championship course at Carnoustie is about a 25 minute drive. For a day out, the Angus Glens are about half an hour inland for walking. Dundee is about 25 minutes south, with the V&A and the Discovery.

Facilities: there's a dishwasher, washing machine, wi-fi, and parking. Pets are allowed, up to two. They provide a cot and highchair if you need them.

Useful links: VisitScotland Angus and NatureScot for the Cairngorms, which aren't far.
