The Old Manor

The Old Manor is a big old house in Dunster. It sleeps twelve, with six bedrooms and six bathrooms. It's a Grade II* listed building, parts of it are from around 1400. It was probably where the Constable of Dunster Castle lived.

It's got a four-star rating, which means it's comfortable and well-equipped, but it's an old house. The floors aren't all level and the stairs are winding. Some doorways are low. That's just how it is.

There's a great hall with a big fireplace, which is the main room. Off that is the solar, which is a lovely bright sitting room. There's also a small chapel room. The gardens are walled and private, with an orchard. You get apples and pears in season.

Dunster village is about a mile down the hill. It's a proper medieval village with a yarn market, a working watermill, and the castle. The castle is run by the National Trust. There are a few pubs and shops there.

The beach at Dunster is about a twenty minute walk. Dunster Station, for the steam railway, is just up the lane. Minehead is a few miles away. It's got a seafront, a harbour, and bigger shops. That's also where the South West Coast Path starts.

You're right on the edge of Exmoor National Park. Good for walking. Porlock Weir, Selworthy, and Lynton are all within half an hour's drive.

Facilities: there's parking on site, WiFi, a washing machine, a dishwasher. The listing says pets are allowed, up to two. Bedding and towels are included. There's an enclosed garden with a patio and a BBQ.
