The Shippon
The Shippon is one of the cottages on our farm, Martin Lane Farm. It's a converted barn, semi-detached. You look out onto a cobbled courtyard and there are six acres of garden and field around you which you're free to use. It feels tucked away but getting to the coast or a town is easy.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms upstairs and one bathroom downstairs. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's comfortable and well equipped. Everything works. The stairs are a typical farm cottage staircase, so they turn a corner and are a bit steep.
Inside, there's a washing machine, TV, and wifi. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them, and a stairgate at the top. Outside you've got a private patio area with a barbecue. You can park right outside.
Burscough village is about two miles away. There's a shop half a mile from the farm. The nearest pub is about a mile and a half. Ormskirk is a four mile drive. It's a proper market town with good shops and a market twice a week.
The coast is close. Southport is about eight miles. It's a Victorian seaside town with a long sandy beach. For nature, WWT Martin Mere is just two miles away and is excellent for birdwatching. The National Trust at Formby is about thirteen miles, with beaches and pine woods.
There are three other cottages here on the farm if you have a bigger group. We don't allow pets. Sorry about that.
