The Old Post Office

The Old Post Office is in Myddfai, a small village in the Brecon Beacons. It's a four-bedroom house, sleeps eight, with two bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating.

It's the old village shop and post office. My family's had it since 1921. The shop front is still there, and there's a working post box set into the wall outside. Inside, some of the old shop shelving is used as a bookcase. The stairs are cottage stairs, so they're steep and a bit narrow in places.

The garden is enclosed, which is good if you've got dogs or kids. There's a sunny room at the back with a view over the fields. You get a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, and there's bike storage.

You can bring two dogs. Bedding and towels are included.

In the village, there's a visitor centre about the local history a few yards away. For a pub or a proper shop, you need to go to Llandovery. That's about three miles. It's a market town with the basics. Llandeilo is a bit further and has more interesting shops and places to eat.

You're right in the Brecon Beacons National Park, so walking and cycling is straightforward from the door. The Brecon Beacons National Park Authority site has trail maps. The Red Kite feeding centre is nearby at Llanddeusant. For a day out, the National Trust's Dolaucothi Gold Mines are worth a visit, as are the National Botanic Garden of Wales and Aberglasney Gardens. All are within about half an hour's drive.
