The Old Post Office

The Old Post Office is our family's place in Myddfai. It’s right opposite the village church. It was the village post office for years, until my grandmother ran it. We’ve had it since 1921. The old shop front is still there, and we still use some of the shelving inside as a bookcase. The post box in the wall outside is real and still gets used.

It sleeps eight people in four bedrooms, with two bathrooms. It’s got a 4 Star rating. It’s a proper old cottage, so the rooms are cosy and it’s full of family things. There’s a sun room at the back that looks out over the garden and the fields. The garden is enclosed, which is good if you're bringing dogs. You can bring two.

The village is quiet. There’s a visitor centre about the local legends a few doors down, with a cafe and a craft shop. The nearest shop is about twenty yards away for basics. For a pub or a restaurant, you’ll need to go to Llandovery, which is three miles. It’s a proper market town with a few places to eat.

You’re in the Brecon Beacons here. It’s great for walking and cycling. The place is set up for it, with somewhere to dry kit, store bikes, and clean off muddy boots. Because it’s a Dark Sky reserve, the stars on a clear night are incredible.

Within about half an hour, you’ve got a few options. Llandeilo has nice shops and cafes. You can visit the Dolaucothi Gold Mines, Aberglasney Gardens, or the National Botanic Garden. Carreg Cennen Castle is a ruin on a cliff, it’s a good walk. The Heart of Wales railway line starts in Llandovery if you fancy a scenic train trip.

Inside, there’s a TV, WiFi, a washing machine, and a dishwasher. All the bedding and towels are included. There’s an electric fire that looks like a wood burner. We don’t have a microwave, just so you know.
