The Jolly Boat is in St Mary's Bay. It's a bungalow, so it's all on one floor. That makes it good for groups with anyone who struggles with stairs. It sleeps ten, in five bedrooms.
It's got two bathrooms, a washing machine, a dishwasher, and a wood burner. The garden is enclosed, which is useful. Bedding and towels are included. There's parking right there, for two cars normally.
The place was built around 1909, part of an old Royal Flying Corps site. The writer Edith Nesbit used to own it. A few bits of her furniture are still here, which is a nice bit of history. You'll see them.
It's right next to the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch miniature railway line. You'll hear the trains sometimes. They're small and it's part of the character. There are open fields on the other side.
You can walk to the beach in about ten minutes. You pass a pub and a shop on the way. The beach is sandy and huge when the tide's out. Good for games or just walking. The promenade goes for miles towards Dymchurch.
Dymchurch has the classic seaside stuff, like an amusement park and places to eat. New Romney is a five minute drive for more shops and supermarkets.
The miniature railway is a proper day out. You can take it all the way to Dungeness. That's a strange, flat place with a lighthouse, an RSPB reserve, and Derek Jarman's famous garden. It's unique.
For planning, the Romney Marsh website has good information. The National Trust for Kent lists their properties nearby, like South Foreland Lighthouse or The White Cliffs.
Things like golf, horse riding, fishing, and a go-kart track are all within a short drive. There's even a small local cinema.
No pets, sorry. The rating is 4 Star.
