South Steading

South Steading is on our small farm, just outside West Kilbride. It's a converted steading, so it's all on one level. You get the whole detached place to yourselves, with an enclosed garden that looks out over the fields. It's quiet here.

It sleeps six. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms. One bedroom has its own shower room. The main living area is open plan, with a kitchen and a log burner. We've kept the stone floors from the original building, so it can feel a bit cool underfoot, but there's underfloor heating. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable, not overly fancy.

The garden is a good size and fully fenced. There's a log-fired hot tub out there, a little log cabin, and some toys and books if you have kids. We can leave a travel cot and highchair if you need them. There's a barn for storing bikes or kayaks. We welcome up to two dogs. There's an outside tap for washing them off.

West Kilbride village is about two miles away, a five-minute drive. It's a craft town with a few cafes, pubs, and shops. It has a small supermarket and a train station. The coast at Seamill is three miles from here, with a sandy beach and a links golf course.

For bigger towns, Largs is about eight miles north and Ardrossan about seven miles south. Both have sailing and are on the coast. You can get a ferry from Ardrossan over to the Isle of Arran, or from Largs to Great Cumbrae island. Millport on Cumbrae is small and good for a bike ride or an ice cream.

If you like golf, the famous courses are within a half-hour drive: Royal Troon, Prestwick, and Turnberry. There's hill walking nearby too, and a few historic castles like Portencross and Hunterston are close by.

In terms of what's here: washing machine, dishwasher, bedding and towels are included, WiFi, TV, and parking right outside. We provide some logs for the burner and hot tub to get you started.
