South Steading

South Steading is a converted barn on our farm, just outside West Kilbride. It's all on one level. You get views over the fields and it's quiet, but the village is only five minutes away by car.

It sleeps six. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms. One bedroom has an en-suite shower. It's got a 4 Star rating. The main living space is open plan with a wood burner. The stone floors are original, so they're cold underfoot. There are rugs.

The garden is fully enclosed. There's a hot tub and a log cabin with some toys and books. We've got a travel cot and highchair. You can store bikes or gear in the barn. We allow two dogs. There's an outside tap for washing them down.

West Kilbride is about two miles away. It's a craft town with cafes, shops, and a couple of pubs. There's a co-op and a post office. The coast at Seamill is three miles from here, with a beach and a golf course.

Largs is eight miles north. Ardrossan is seven miles south. Both have ferry terminals. You can get a ferry from Ardrossan to the Isle of Arran, or from Largs to Great Cumbrae. Millport on Cumbrae is good for a bike ride round the island.

If you're into golf, the famous courses are within a half hour's drive: Royal Troon, Prestwick, and Turnberry.

For local history, Portencross Castle is nearby. For wider planning, the National Trust for Scotland has good information.

The facilities are all listed, but the main things are: WiFi, a washing machine, dishwasher, bedding and towels included, and parking right outside. It's wheelchair accessible at the entrance and everything is on the ground floor.
