This is Pen Y Crug, near Beulah. It's down a quiet lane next to a working farm. A proper Welsh cottage, detached with its own garden. It's very quiet out here.
It sleeps five, in three bedrooms. There's one bathroom with a walk-in shower. It's got a 4 Star rating. The thing you need to know is the stairs. There are two separate staircases to the first floor. One of them, from the kitchen up to the second bedroom, is like a steep ladder. It's fine if you're steady on your feet, but worth mentioning.
You'll see red kites and buzzards most days. The lane is good for walking or cycling straight from the door. The garden is enclosed, which is handy if you're bringing dogs. We take up to two.
You're about six miles from Builth Wells. It's a proper market town with shops, cafes and a few pubs. The Royal Welsh Showground is there, so if there's a show on it's busy, otherwise it's quiet.
For a day out, the Elan Valley is about 15 miles. The reservoirs and dams are impressive. The Brecon Beacons are roughly 17 miles away for bigger walks. Hay-on-Wye is 35 minutes by car if you like books.
Inside, there's a woodburning stove, a dishwasher, and a washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot if you need it, and parking right outside. There's WiFi, but the signal can be patchy because of the location.
