Chestnut Cottage

Chestnut Cottage is about five miles from Ayr. It's on a working dairy farm called Kirklandholm. It's quiet, just fields and cows.

It's got four bedrooms for eight people. Each bedroom has its own bathroom, which is handy. It's rated 4 Star. It's comfortable, not a show home.

The garden is a decent size and you're welcome to use the BBQ. There's a games room in an outbuilding with a pool table. It's basic but fine for a rainy afternoon.

The farm track up to the cottage is a bit bumpy. You see that a lot around here. The main house is nearby, but the cottage is separate.

Ayr has everything you'd need: supermarkets, shops, places to eat. Prestwick is just along the coast.

If you walk, the River Ayr Way and the Ayrshire Coastal Path are close by. The coast road is good for cycling. You're about a fifteen minute drive from the nearest proper beach.

Golf is a big thing here. Royal Troon and Trump Turnberry are within about twenty minutes' drive. The Ayr racecourse is about four miles away.

Culzean Castle is worth a trip. It's a National Trust site about twenty minutes south. National Trust for Scotland Culzean Castle.

You can get to Glasgow in half an hour on a good day. The ferry to Arran goes from Ardrossan, which is about forty minutes north. Loch Lomond is less than an hour.

For facilities: there's WiFi, a washing machine, a dishwasher, and parking right outside. Bedding is included. We have a cot, highchair, and stairgate if you're bringing little ones. No pets, sorry, because of the farm.

If you're looking for walks or other places to visit, Ayrshire & Arran Tourism has good information.
