Smithfield House

Smithfield House is a big farmhouse near Tarbolton village. It's detached, on a working sheep farm, so you'll see the sheep in the fields. It sleeps sixteen. Eight bedrooms, five bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating.

The main thing is the space. It's good for big groups or family get-togethers. There's a games room in a separate building outside, which is handy. The garden is enclosed. There's on-site parking and an electric vehicle charger.

During December, we put up Christmas decorations inside. It's festive but not over the top. The stairs are fine. One entrance is wheelchair accessible, but it's an old farmhouse so some doorways and the main stairs are standard.

You're allowed up to four dogs. There's a washing machine, dishwasher, and bedding and towels are included. There's a wood-fired pizza oven and a BBQ smoker outside if you fancy using them.

Location wise, you're about eight miles from the coast at Ayr. Troon and Prestwick are along there too. There's a shop and a pub about a mile away in the village. For a bigger shop, you'd go to Ayr.

If you like walking, the Ayrshire Coastal Path is close. The River Ayr Way starts nearby as well. For golf, Royal Troon and Turnberry are within half an hour's drive.

The Galloway Forest Park is about a forty minute drive. It's huge, good for walking and wildlife. It's also a Dark Sky Park, so good for stargazing if you get a clear night. The Scottish Dark Sky Observatory is in Dalmellington, about twenty five minutes away.

You can get to the Isle of Arran from Ardrossan, which is about forty minutes by car. Glasgow is around an hour's drive, or you can get the train from Ayr.
