Birkenhead Cottage is on an old pack horse road called Birks Road, in Hebden Bridge. It's an over-dwelling, which means the front door opens onto the street level, but because the road is so steep, the back of the house looks out over a big drop with views across the valley. The garden is split-level and quite large, about a quarter of an acre, with those views.
It sleeps six, with three bedrooms and one bathroom. It's a 4 Star place, so it's comfortable and well-equipped. The stairs inside are what you'd expect: a bit steep and twisty, typical for an old cottage like this.
You're right in town here. The front door opens onto a quiet, cobbled street, but you can walk to everything in a few minutes. There are pubs, cafes, shops, and the Picture House cinema, which still has an old-fashioned tea service. The train station is half a mile away. It's a nice Victorian one, on the line between Manchester and Leeds.
Hebden Bridge is known for walking. The National Trust's Hardcastle Crags is just up the valley, and a section of the Pennine Way is close by. It's good cycling country too, as people who watch the Tour de Yorkshire will know.
If you drive, Haworth and the Brontë Parsonage are about 20 minutes away. The Yorkshire Dales National Park is roughly an hour's drive. Holmfirth, which was used for Last of the Summer Wine, is also within an hour.
For facilities, you've got a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, and TV. There's a cot and highchair if needed, and all bedding and towels are included. The garden is enclosed, with a patio area and a barbecue. There's also a shed for bicycle storage. Sorry, no pets.
