This is Craigendarroch House, just on the edge of Ballater. It's a big detached house, sleeps twelve. It looks a bit like a small castle from the outside, with turrets. The architect who designed it also worked on Balmoral, which is up the road.
The house has six bedrooms and five bathrooms. Two bedrooms have their own ensuite. It's got a 4 Star rating. The rooms are large. There's a main drawing room with an open fire, a formal dining room, and a few smaller rooms like a snug and a conservatory if you want some quiet. There's also an indoor bar area with a TV and fridges.
The garden is enclosed and private. You get good views of Craigendarroch Hill from the back. It's a steep climb if you want to walk up it, but the view from the top is worth it.
You're about a five or ten minute walk into the centre of Ballater. There are shops, places to eat, and a pub. The town has a golf course. Being here means you're right on the edge of the Cairngorms for walking or cycling. In winter, the ski centres at the Lecht and Glenshee are within about a 40 minute drive.
For visiting, Balmoral Castle is close by. Crathes Castle and Gardens are about a 30 minute drive towards Aberdeen. If you want to plan days out walking or visiting sites, the National Trust for Scotland and Cairngorms National Park websites are useful.
Facilities: all the bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and highchair. The kitchen has a dishwasher and washing machine. There's parking for several cars on the driveway. You can bring up to two dogs. There's WiFi and a barbecue in the garden.
