The Tower is on the Dougarie Estate, a working farm on the Isle of Arran. It's not just a holiday cottage, it's a historic listed tower. It was built by the Dukes of Hamilton in the 1800s.
It sleeps eight, with four bedrooms and four bathrooms. The renovation is high-end, which is what the 5 Star rating reflects. It's been done to a very high spec but in a way that suits the building.
The main thing is the roof terrace. The views from up there are the whole point. You look out over the estate and the water. Dougarie beach is just a few minutes' walk away, and there's a beach hut there for guests.
Inside, it's a tower, so expect spiral staircases. They're well-built and safe, but they are what they are. Just be aware if you're bringing very young children or anyone with mobility issues. There is a wheelchair-accessible entrance on the ground floor.
The estate itself offers a lot of activities you can book. There's fishing on the River Iorsa, boat trips, clay pigeon shooting, and even things like sausage-making classes. You can arrange golf at the Machrie links course, or book a whisky tour. It's all there if you want it.
For basics, the nearest shop, pub, and restaurant are in Blackwaterfoot, about three miles away. The estate is rural and quiet.
Facilities cover everything you'd expect: a well-equipped kitchen with a dishwasher, a washing machine, TVs, WiFi, and plenty of parking. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring up to two dogs.
If you're planning to explore, useful links are VisitScotland Arran and National Trust for Scotland Arran. Brodick Castle and Goat Fell are both within a 30-minute drive.
